Slowing Down

It's difficult to put into words my visits with Abi.

Though it is always hard seeing the changes in her after the accident, it seems harder to be away.

Abi teaches us to slow our lives down, she shows us the fragility in life, exposes us to things we never thought we would have to face, and the uneasiness of the unknown. Everyone visiting this week: Willie, Leandra, Derek, and Georgina all struggle with many emotions each time we are with her and have been effected and impacted in different ways--there is sadness, anger, hurt, and many questions that are left unanswered...but we try to be patient with each other...if anything is certain, waiting has been something we have been forced to learn the last seven months.

Though Abi is making steps of progress, she goes through struggles, pain, and frustration--struggles I could never even imagine. However, there are moments where you can see her brain making new connections and her body and mind interacting with the world around her.

We stay by her side, trusting that she knows who we are--loving her, and treating her as if she knows what we are saying and that the Abi we know is inside..healing one day at a time.

Abi has a way of looking at you...I can't describe it, but it's a way that makes you feel that you are exactly where you need to be...
